Iona’s project in Spain – Handbook to survive (and enjoy!) your ESC project

While being a volunteer of the European Solidarity Corps in Barcelona, Iona put in place her own initiative of solidarity : Handbook to survive (and enjoy!) your ESC project.

Iona created a fanzine titled “Handbook to Survive (and Enjoy!) Your ESC Project” with the goal of promoting the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program among the youth in Catalonia.

The idea behind this project was to make the ESC program more accessible and engaging for young people who might be interested in volunteering abroad. The fanzine serves as a practical and fun guide for potential volunteers, offering tips, advice, and insights into what to expect during an ESC project.

The fanzine includes personal stories from previous ESC volunteers, as well as useful information about the application process, the different types of projects available, and how to make the most out of the volunteering experience. By creating this resource, she aimed to demystify the process and encourage more young people in Catalonia to consider participating in ESC projects.

The plan is to distribute the fanzine to anyone who comes to COCAT seeking information about the ESC program. This way, it can serve as an introductory tool for potential volunteers, helping them learn about the program in a creative and engaging format while also inspiring them to take the next step in their volunteering journey.

This initiative was supported along the CLIC project. C.L.I.C. for “Coordinating Locally in order to Increase More Changes with  the European solidarity Corps” is a cooperation partnership we participate  in with 9 other like-minded organisations from 9 European countries. Together, we want to increase the impact and the visibility of the European  Solidarity Corps in our communities, while providing young people with a  strong educational value along their volunteering projects.
