Milena’s project in France – Projet Focus Belge

While being a volunteer of the European Solidarity Corps in Lyon, Milena put in place her own initiative of solidarity.  She organised a stand to inform people more about Belgium.

“In my theater where I work, we have a European stage with artists coming to perform from across Europe. This season there is a focus on Belgium which means that out of 13 performances in the season we have 4 different Belgian companies performing on stage. For our adults visiting we also have a small introduction to Belgian culture with our sale of 4 different Belgian beers. For me, as a Belgian, that is not enough to bring the culture to the people, so I want to act as an ambassador for Belgium and present its culture to the participants. I wanted to give some more attention on this focus for our last event.“

Milena organised a stand in the street fair organized by the Theatre le Ciel with the help of 12 local teenagers. They discovered belgian culture and history, helped organize, decorate, and finally manage the stand. The teenagers created posters and games and learned how to express themselves in front of people.

“ The teenagers (La Team du Ciel) have participated very much and have learned a lot. We successfully created a stand with the focus on Belgium with decorations, self-made information posters, interactactional games for the visitors. The teenagers interacted with the visitors, asking them questions, giving them explanations on the project and animating the games we prepared together. At the end I felt that we were really a part of the theater and its team. The event has been very successful and I felt that we as a group have helped with that. “

This initiative was supported along the CLIC project. C.L.I.C. for “Coordinating Locally in order to Increase More Changes with  the European solidarity Corps” is a cooperation partnership we participate  in with 9 other like-minded organisations from 9 European countries. Together, we want to increase the impact and the visibility of the European  Solidarity Corps in our communities, while providing young people with a  strong educational value along their volunteering projects.
