What challenge inspired this recipe?

Sharing the living place can be challenging for young people, especially when they come from different countries and background.
It’s sometimes difficult to find the right time and space to share the disagreements or things that can be difficult to handle within the house.

Ingredients :

The tutor has to organise the meeting, so as to make sure that it’s going to be solution-oriented, and not turn into an ‘argument meeting’.
The tutor can start with an ‘how are you doing’ round table discussion, then give a sheet for volunteers to evaluate independently how they are feeling in the house (on different aspects : cleaning, organization, atmosphere etc.), and then a discussion can be held. Everyone can share, the other listen and a discussion follows.

Step by step guide

Offer a one-month meeting (2 to 3 hours) with all the volunteers sharing the house, in order to talk about the house management, how everybody is feeling. This meeting is to be led by a tutor, who will make sure that it’s a free and respectful space.
These meetings have to be included in the volunteers agenda, from the beginning of the mission (for example : the last Friday of the month can be kept free for these meetings). The rest of the day can be also used for an activity that can be led each time from a different volunteer (a visit, a cooking time, a sport game etc.). So that the day would end in a joyful note.

Important to highlight!

These meetings have to be held carefully, and ahead of this, the tutors have to insure that it’s a safe space for all.

Before you start cooking, keep in mind…

The tutor must feel comfortable leading these meetings.
The fact that volunteers are all free one day of the month has to be implemented with the local tutors from the beginning of the mission.
