What challenge inspired this recipe?

As we are faced with global food waste crisis, as well as other sustainability issues, some volunteers found a good way to support themselves and the planet. At the same time, depending on where you are you are, you might be faced with a big offer of fruits and vegetables even out of their usual season with a questionable quality and origin. This could be a good practice if you want to deal with:

  1. combat food waste

  2. support eating seasonal fruits and vegetables

  3. save money

  4. join a likeminded community

More and more cities are opening up communal spaces. One of them could be community garden. If there isn’t any in your vicinity, you can try to see if you could find an online community or make your own community garden in the backyard of your house together with other volunteers.

You can construct small plots and use permaculture techniques https://grocycle.com/permaculture-backyard/ that will support the growth of the plants without harmful substances. Together with your roommates you can decide on what to grow, have a gardening journal and maintain until it grows.

If there is a communal garden in your town, and you can try finding them on Facebook or on the web, find a way how you can get involved.
