Having a local person who can empathize with you and support you on your arrival is very beneficial to remove the stress of starting a new life in a different country and a new project. Having other volunteers, who are already there, keep the contact for the new arriving ones helps them to already get to know some tips and tricks and the house situation. On the other hand, volunteers who are already there, and maybe towards the end of their project, could see this as a cool new task and give some effort to welcome volunteers. It is important to clarify with the mentors what kind of information is the most useful to the new volunteers… practical arrangements, support with the arrival and so on.
