What challenge inspired this recipe?
When volunteers arrive in a new country, they are understandably not aware of the local conditions, norms, or instructions when it comes to different kinds of emergency situations. Hence, to make sure that the volunteers are prepared for any kind of emergency, they should know what to do in those situations and who to contact.

Step by step guide
As new volunteers arrive, remember to reserve enough time to show them around their workplace and accommodation. Show for example (but not limited to) emergency exists, electric fuses, gas and water shut-off valve, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and make sure that they know emergency call numbers in your country and where to find them. It is wise to advise them to save all necessary emergency contacts in their phone.
Make a list of contacts in your organization to which the volunteers should reach in what kind of situations (when emergency services are not needed). You can also make an infographic with emergency plans, as some people are more visual learners.

Before you start cooking, keep in mind…
Some constraints may include not reserving enough time for explaining what to do in emergency situations. Sometimes electric fuses or shut-off valves are out of reach, and not all buildings provide adequate emergency plans in English or include pictures.
