What challenge inspired this recipe?

We think that learning about Hungary and understanding it better, creating connections and learning in the meanwhile is a very important aspect of our program. For that we organize 1 day trips or visit with the volunteers or host other NGOs to provide this experience for them. If the organizations are also hosting long term volunteers it is also a great opportunity to get connected and share their experience.

Ingredients :

We need the venue and in case the other organization is coming from far away we should take care of the accommodation.

Step by step guide

In this practice the hosting organization is the one who is responsible for the planning of the day and arranges the trip with the other organizations. The volunteers can also help in some tasks from the beginning.  The visit can happen in 2 ways: we host or we visit the venue of the other organization.

Both type of occasions happening the same way:

  • introduction of the organization about the place and the work of the organization
  • holding a workshop about given topic based on the activity of the organization
  • informal time, sightseeing

These events right now are happening quite randomly but usually we organize 3-4 during a year.

Important to highlight!

We consider this practice good since the volunteers have the opportunity to see the face of Hungary like this and learn about new topics from other organizations: social circus, drama pedagogy, assertive communication etc.

It is also a great way to explore the country and nearby sightseeing places as informal time.

Upscaling – put it as regular visits in every 3 month or half year and not so randomly ; more involvement of the volunteers in the preparation phase.

Before you start cooking, keep in mind…

It was quite hard to set a date which can be good for both organizations for a visit like that and it can put more burden on them apart from the daily duties to organize the events.
