Sona’s project in Estonia – Cultural event at Tallinna Lastekodu Vanema ja Lapse Turvakodu

While being a volunteer of the European Solidarity Corps in Estonia, Sona put in place her own initiative of solidarity with a cultural event !

For her CLIC personal project of solidarity, Sona organized a cultural evening showcasing Azerbaijani culture. She began preparations a week in advance, sending invitations to current and former shelter residents, colleagues, and friends. Two days before the event, Sona, with the help of her friends, prepared traditional meals and decorated the space, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.

The program opened with a brief introduction to Azerbaijan and its neighboring countries, followed by a quiz to explore the country in more depth. She then explained the dishes and served the guests before moving on to traditional dances. The evening concluded with videos about Azerbaijan, allowing participants to experience the country visually.

Sona considers the event a success because it had a meaningful impact on everyone involved. She grew more confident and self-assured, inspired the children to take pride in themselves and continue learning, and provided the mothers with an opportunity to explore a new culture. The event also gave her the chance to share accurate information about her country, countering misleading media portrayals, and she felt proud to represent it authentically.

This initiative was supported along the CLIC project. C.L.I.C. for “Coordinating Locally in order to Increase More Changes with  the European solidarity Corps” is a cooperation partnership we participate  in with 9 other like-minded organisations from 9 European countries. Together, we want to increase the impact and the visibility of the European  Solidarity Corps in our communities, while providing young people with a  strong educational value along their volunteering projects.
